Dear whisky enthusiast,
Welcome to my website, dedicated to the water of life: Whisky. An alcoholic beverage obtained by distillation. The term is derived from the Gaelic uisge-beatha, later shortened to usquebaugh, and meaning, like the Latin aqua vitae and the French eau de vie, "water of life."
Whisky-online was a few years ago the largest whisky site online. It had more than 10000 bottle shots and tasting notes.
Due to the workload and the many bottlings that appear on a very regular base, I've decided to limit the information to distilleries. The website-layout is a complete make-over. Content is being added every day.
The Scotch whiskies are divided into four regions:
- Highlands; from the area above the line Dundee-Greenock
- Lowland; from the area south of this line
- Islay; from the isle of Islay
- Campbeltown; from distilleries on the Mull of Kintyre
De Highland region is very large and is often divided into districts:
- Northern Highlands
- Western Highlands
- Eastern Highlands
- Speyside
- Islands (Arran, Mull, Jura, Skye, Orkney)
Distillery managers (or whisky enthusiasts) can contact me by email at info@whisky-online.net to update any info.
This website is only informative, I'm not responsible for any mistakes or errors.
Enjoy!
