1990 : restored production of grain whisky under the name Ben Nevis Distillery Co LtdHouse Style Fairly full, nutty and chocolatey. Herkomst The river and glen running past the mountain both carry the name, as does the remote sea loch at Knoydart, 40 miles to the west. In Gaelic the mountain's name, Beinn Nibheis, has been linked with Irish and Gaelic words meaning poisonous or terrible, implying a fairly ominous character. Capacity per year 2.000.000 litres Independent Bottler Dewar Rattray
Duncan & Taylor
Murray McDavid
SignatoryInformation In 1878 a second distilling unit was built nearby as an extension to Ben Nevis itself. It was called Nevis and operated as a separate entity for 30 years before being absorbed into the Ben Nevis operation in 1908.
Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, sits majestically at the head of Loch Linnhe, its presence dominating the landscape from all corners of Fort William and some parts of Lochaber.
