Christmas/New Year 2007/8 closure - Distillery closed from Friday 14th December 2007 to Monday 7th January 2008. No tours will be permitted during this time. Visitors Centre Shop - closed from Thursday 20th December 2007 to Monday 7th January 2008.

During the summer every year, The Macallan stops production and enters the ‘Silent Season’ when maintenance is carried out in the Distillery. This takes place from the end of June until the beginning of August. Unfortunately, during this time, we cannot take visitors on a Distillery tour, but we do have a limited tour incorporating a visit to Warehouse 7 and 'The Story of Oak’, ending with a dram in the Visitor Centre.

'Macallan' is most likely derived from two Gaelic words, 'MAGH' meaning a fertile piece of ground and 'ELLAN', meaning 'of St Fillan', an Irish born monk who travelled widely in Scotland spreading Christianity during the eighth century.

The Macallan - 1851 Inspiration
The Macallan 1851 Inspiration stands as testament to a time of invention and revolution. A time when whisky makers began to work with many different types of casks, creating whiskies in many different styles.
Filled with a signature Single Malt, the bottle selected for the 1851 Inspiration has been painstakingly handcrafted to recreate an original Macallan bottle from that era. Each bottle unique in its own way with unusual markings and irregularities. Each bottle has also been closed with a driven cork and hand dipped in wax to create an authentic seal.

Finish:
Massive fruits and spice delivering an everlasting after taste that finishes with a subtle aniseed note.

Massively spicy and prune like, balanced with light estery fruits and toffee.
Finish:
Drying clove spices with wood resins and dried fruits.
