'Macallan' is most likely derived from two Gaelic words, 'MAGH' meaning a fertile piece of ground and 'ELLAN', meaning 'of St Fillan', an Irish born monk who travelled widely in Scotland spreading Christianity during the eighth century.

The Macallan - 1851 Inspiration
The Macallan 1851 Inspiration stands as testament to a time of invention and revolution. A time when whisky makers began to work with many different types of casks, creating whiskies in many different styles.
Filled with a signature Single Malt, the bottle selected for the 1851 Inspiration has been painstakingly handcrafted to recreate an original Macallan bottle from that era. Each bottle unique in its own way with unusual markings and irregularities. Each bottle has also been closed with a driven cork and hand dipped in wax to create an authentic seal.

The Macallan Woodland Estate Limited Edition celebrates the special relationship that exists between our precious spirit and the exceptional oak casks in which it is matured.
In recognition of this, one thousand oak trees have been planted at The Macallan Estate – one for every bottle of this Limited Edition. Limited to 1000 bottles.

The Macallan - 40 year old
A superlative example of The Macallan's artistry and expertise. A strictly limited number of 450 bottles of this rare and precious expression was made available for the world's finest whisky specialists.

Amber with a hint of copper, with orange glow reflections.
Nose:
Exotic oriental aroma, jasmine and sandalwood.
Palate:
Massive flavour burst, orange zest, darkest chocolate, cinnamon, with a touch of wood smoke.
Finish:
Very long finish with character defining dried fruits.

The Macallan 1966 - Fine & Rare - Cask 7878 - 35 year old - 55,5%
Bottled in 2002 at cask strength.

Colour:
Rich Elm Burr.
Nose:
Robust cloves and ginger resins with wood and prunes. Hints of lighter estery notes (apples/citrus/floral) are complexed with a treacle toffee nose. Similar to sherry fruit cake.
Palate:
Massively spicy and prune like, balanced with light estery fruits and toffee.
Finish:
Drying clove spices with wood resins and dried fruits.

The Macallan 1940 - Fine & Rare - 35 year old - 43%
First bottled in 1975.
Colour:
Oak.
Nose:
Heavy burnt peat dominates the nose with dried fruits and vanilla toffee notes breaking through on second nosing. Some hints of lighter and citrus fruits with a late floral nose.
Palate:
Peaty with some dried fruits and nuts with a late and sweetening toffee character.
Finish:
Wood maturity is enhanced with peat smoke to linger for a long and dry finish.

The Macallan 1939 - Fine & Rare - 40 year old - 43%
First bottled in 1979.
Colour:
Rich Oak.
Nose:
Orangey with rich dried fruits of prunes and dates. Treacle and vanilla toffees with light peat smoke and wood.
Palate:
Rich peat and powerful wood which gently dries the palate. Sweet toffees overlaid with fruits help reduce the dryness, resulting in greater balance.
Finish:
Drying finish of peat smoke and classic long term wood ageing with lighter fruits.

The Macallan 1937 - Fine & Rare - 37 year old - 43%
First bottled in 1974.
Colour:
Oak.
Nose:
Apple fruits with floral notes balanced with citrus orange and clear esters (pear drops). Hints of nuttiness adds complexity.
Palate:
Light citrus fruits and spices balanced with peat reek (smoke), good dried fruits and aged wood.
Finish:
Fruits and wood with lingering peat smoke – rich, round, smooth and long. A little dryness is evident in this bottling.
